It has been a week full of pride and self-fulfillment for more than 30 Junee Correctional Centre students.
The cohort of Junee inmates have graduated from a wide range of TAFE Riverina courses.
The students’ achievements were celebrated at a graduation and awards ceremony at the Junee Correctional Centre’s Cultural Centre earlier this week, with a host of proud teachers and staff in attendance.
The inmates graduated at a wide range of course levels, from Certificate I to Certificate III across a number of disciplines, including agriculture, horticulture, engineering, automotive, art and design and building and construction, .
TAFE Riverina Institute Director Paul Ingwersen was quick to congratulate the graduates on their achievements, which in many cases, came in the face of adversity.
“It requires a decision from you to step forward; to open your mind to something new, and for many, to overcome challenges or negative experiences you have had in the past with formal learning,” he said on the day.
“This is no ordinary TAFE graduation.
“To graduate requires commitment from you, our teachers and support staff and from the GEO group.
“I congratulate you all on your determination to succeed, to further your learning, to complete your course and to take another step forward to new opportunities.”
60 percent of the Centre’s population are currently enrolled in 33 different qualifications.
