BACKGROUND

On November 18th, 2010, The GEO Group, Inc. (GEO) received an intent to award from the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) for the management of the Indiana Short Term Offender Program (STOP) Facility. The facility is on the grounds of the former Indiana Department of Corrections Plainfield Re-Entry Educational Facility and provides programming and treatment to offenders with 365 days or less remaining on their sentence. On October 5th, 2014, Governor Mike Pence announced plans to make the Plainfield Short-Term Offender Program Facility the first facility in Indiana to house lower-risk offenders sentenced to prison for the first time and offer individualized programming through the First Time Offender Program. The facility has been renamed to the Heritage Trail Correctional Facility (HTCF).

SCOPE OF WORK:

The core curriculum at HTCF is derived from two of the IDOC’s most successful evidence-based programs including Purposeful Living Units Serve, a faith and character program, and Thinking for a Change, a cognitive behavioral program. The facility offers a wide range of holistic programming to facilitate a positive change in behavior including addiction recovery services, family and social support, civic engagement, cognitive/behavioral change, education and employment. Faith and character-based programming is also integrated into every aspect of day-to-day activities.

FACILITY DESCRIPTION:

The facility consists of an administration building, chapel, programs space, vocational building, services building, and twelve housing cottages.

ACCREDITATION:

The facility achieved initial accreditation through the American Correctional Association in 2012 and reaccreditation in 2015 and was reaccredited in 2018 with a score of 99.46%.
