IDAHO FALLS — Former prison inmates recently took a monumental step forward in their lives.

A ceremony celebrated graduates’ successful completion of the GEO Reentry Services program on May 14 at the Hampton Inn on Lindsay Boulevard.

The event, formally named a Transition Celebration by GEO re-entry staff, marked the graduates’ transition from incarceration to the real world, equipped with the skills and confidence needed to thrive.

The ceremony was hosted by GEO Reentry Services in partnership with the Idaho Department of Correction, recognizing people on probation or parole who had participated in a nine-to-12-month program designed to reduce criminal behavior and prepare them for life outside of the system.

The celebration was a heartfelt tribute to the graduates’ resilience and growth. Family members, friends, community partners, GEO Reentry staff and DOC officials gathered to show their support for the graduates.

The event began with speeches from several key figures, starting with Judy Hewlett, program manager of GEO Reentry Services. Hewlett offered words of praise and encouragement, acknowledging the hard work and perseverance of each graduate.

“You guys have done an amazing job,” said Hewlett, expressing her admiration for the graduates’ dedication throughout the program.

Evete Navedo, the statewide manager for GEO Reentry Services, spoke about the importance of community and support in each graduate’s journey.

“This journey is not done alone,” Navedo said. “I realized: you’re a multiplier. The change you decided to make is connected to the entire community.”

One of the most emotional moments came from Elliot, a graduate. With tears in his eyes, he spoke about how the program had transformed his perspective on life.

“They gave me the skills I needed for long-term goals,” said Elliot. “They’re the first people that have made me think people could care about us.”

Following the speeches, each graduate was called to the stage to receive their certificate of completion, shaking hands with leaders and staff members as their families cheered them on.

The GEO Reentry Services program aims to help individuals successfully reintegrate into society by addressing the root causes of criminal behavior. It offers participants an individualized behavior change plan and connects them with critical resources in employment, education, housing and case management. The program is offered both in-person and virtually, ensuring continued support and monitoring of progress.
