BI Employee of the Year Art Newsome

Art Newsome began his BI career in 1995. Over his 30+ year tenure, he has excelled in each of his roles as Senior Software Developer, Team Lead, Solutions Architect, Application Architect, and now Distinguished Enterprise Architect.

Art currently focuses on the enterprise, data, and application architecture as the sole architect for a team of 40+ developers and testers. Lately, he has been working on future innovations and improving TotalAccess for BI customers.

At BI, Art has remained a focused and dedicated team and technical leader throughout his career. He is a great collaborator and teacher, and readily engages with any individual to answer questions, share knowledge, and promote an exchange of ideas and approaches.

Often called the “master of metaphor,” Art translates complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language for nontechnical audiences. As a result, he serves as the default presenter for our technology solutions to the business.

Art’s favorite part of the job is the people he gets to work with and problem solving. Art stated that his proudest moments at BI include the day TotalAccess was launched and writing the TAD algorithm. Art is one of the key brains and architects for the TotalAccess software that serves as a central command platform for over 300,000 monitored individuals and over 400 BI customers at the county, state, and federal levels. “Almost every day is great,” he stated with a smile while reflecting on his many achievements.

When he is not working, Art enjoys spending time outdoors gardening, hiking, and playing golf. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Melissa, their two daughters, and their granddaughter. Congratulations, Art on all of your accomplishments and this award!
