Dr. Eugene Herrmann Presented with an Award at the American Correctional Association Conference

In 2025, The American Correctional Association’s (ACA) 155th Congress of Corrections was held in Denver, Colorado. The Congress provided many workshops focusing on security, medical, and mental health issues. During the conference, Dr. Eugene Herrmann, Vice President of Behavioral Health, was presented with the American Board of Correctional Psychology’s (ABCP)People Helping People Award by Dr. Dean Aufderheide, who is the founder of the ABCP and the Director of Mental Health for ACA. The award is given annually by the ABCP to individuals based on their exemplary service and contributions to Correctional Mental Health.

Dr. Herrmann has previously served as the Chair of the ACA Behavioral Health Committee and has been a member of both the Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorder Committees. He has given presentations with others at ACA on completing the psychological autopsy, Medication Assisted Treatment, and how Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is underdiagnosed and often untreated in correctional settings.

Dr. Herrmann has been in the field for over 30 years, serving as a psychologist in both federal and state prisons, an Assistant Facility Administrator for a sexually violent predator program, and Director of Psychology at a forensic hospital. He has worked for GEO for over 29 years, the last 12 at the corporate level with the responsibility of overseeing Behavioral Health Services across all U.S. GEO facilities.

His focus has always been on providing quality behavioral health care for those individuals in our facilities. He has devoted his career to the treatment of those with mental illness in the prison and forensic hospital system. He indicated that it is an honor to receive the ABCP’s People Helping People Award while also recognizing that successful treatment is provided by medical, psychiatric, behavioral health, and security staff working together in a multidisciplinary approach. We at GEO are happy that he is on our team and look forward to his continued contributions to making a difference in the treatment that we provide in our facilities. Congratulations Dr. Herrmann for receiving this well-deserved honor!
