SALINAS, Calif. —
The Monterey County Probation Department hosted an open house today to celebrate the 15th anniversary of its reentry services center on Sun Street in Salinas.
The center, which opened in 2009, aims to reduce recidivism and overcrowding at the Monterey County Jail.
The event provided an opportunity for the public to learn about the center's programs and services.
"We have different parts of our program that we'd like the public to learn about, as well as our jail program," said program manager, Lyla Bear. "So it's just an opportunity for everyone to learn what your reentry services about and what we're doing here in Monterey County."
In 2023, more than 200 people participated in the GEO Reentry Program, a national company that works with Monterey County Probation and the Department of Corrections.
